Journey to the West – Part 3 : Punakaiki

Up north about 80km away from Hokitika is Punakaiki.

There is nothing in this place except the beautiful beach landscape. And we took the deliberate drive to go see the Punakaiki Pancake Rocks.

They are called the pancake rocks because the rocks look like stacks and stacks of pancakes layered onto each other. It was amazing and beautiful.

This is limestone and is supposed to be a porous stone.. so till today, it is a mystery why the rocks were formed this way.

It was a beautifully designed walking trail to see the stones and we had a great time.
