Singapore Marina Barrage

Marina Barrage. Have you been there yet?

Before Marina Barrage came up, practically no one ever travelled all the way south on the MRT to Marina Bay MRT station. It was like a deserted station meant for the few travellers who would travel to the end and then backwards to the north, just to be assured of a seat.

But now, it’s one of the hottest MRT station in Singapore. That’s because from Marina Bay MRT station, there is a shutter bus that takes you to Marina Barrage. Possibly one of the nicest spots in Singapore right now.

When we visited, it had been the gloomiest, darkest day ever over the Christmas holidays. The sky was completely filled with dark clouds and it looked like dooms day.

Yet, the entire place was filled with people. Picnickers, kite flyers, dog owners, photography enthusiasts, kids, parents, GRANDparents.

I think it was obvious that the word has spread and EVERYONE has already heard of this nice spot.

It’s not a place to have a quiet picnic (quiet picnics?!?! ya ya, I’m spoilt in NZ), but if you gather a few friends, grab a picnic mat, pack some nice food, bring a camera/video cam, it’s a wonderful place for a get together.
