My brother gets hitched.

After 11 years of courtship, my younger brother and his girlfriend finally tied the knot.

The hubby and I returned to Singapore to celebrate this joyous occasion with my family. We’ve all been waiting a little too long for this day. Haha!

I’m really happy for the couple. I may not approve of many things that my brother does, but his choice of bride definitely gets my thumbs up. I adore my sister-in-law. =)

I only wish the elders hadn’t placed so many expectations on them for the wedding. Some of these traditional cultural stuff are really old fashioned and a painful chore to prepare. The items really have no value to the younger generation, except as a photo opportunity.

Seriously, other than looking pretty in a photo, what does this lamp do for the couple?

And the pig. Don’t forget the must-have pig. Hahaha! I think everyone secretly likes the “pig tradition”, because we get to eat it afterwards.

And the jewellery set. Look at these awful yucky stuff! I went “blegh” as soon as I saw them. Would anyone under the age of 65 be seen in these bangles on the streets?

The only chinese traditional thing I actually do like about weddings is the “kwa” outfit that the bride has to wear. Every girl looks good in a kwa, even though it looks quite scary on the hanger.

I told the hubby that when our children get married, we are NOT going to make them do any of this stuff. I can see my mom rolling her eyes. I think she secretly likes the pig thingy. Haha!

  1. hey i’ve the same sentiments. i’m officially (legally) married but not going through the customary. however my folks and peers have been asking when are we getting married. honestly, we don’t mind doing it but it has to be for us not for show.

  2. Lydia n’ I shall pass that piggy eww!

    • when the groom brings a big fat pig to the bride’s home, it signifies that the bride’s family is marrying off a good daughter. Take the pig & feed it to us. =)

  3. Bing is right, you gals have to take the pig, others can avoid lah. ;D
