Lion Dance.

Our boy loves the lion dance and has learnt a little of it in kung fu school.

I had always thought of the lion dance as child’s play. But our boy told me that the dancer holding the head has to manage the weight of the lion head, flap the lion’s mouth, blink the eyes AND watch his foot work at the same time. And the chap who’s supposed to be the hind legs of the lion has to dance with his head bent real low (so that he doesn’t create a camel-like hump with his head) and must have the strength to lift his partner when the lion “jumps up”.

All of a sudden, it no longer seems so simple to me. And I found myself wondering about the people who are passionate about lion dance and who make these lions practically come alive.

Here’s a lion that was dancing from store to store in a large shopping mall in Singapore.

This lion had a good sense of humour. He was prancing around in the hair salon playing with stuff. And even struck a pose for me when he caught me shooting him. Hahaa…
