New Year Resolutions.

So many of my friends have talked about their new year resolutions and I still haven’t picked mine.

I used to think that if I wrote it down, I would jinx myself and end up not achieving it. But a friend told me today that she writes it down so that she feels the pressure to deliver the items that she has set out to achieve. Well, that’s a positive way of looking at things!

I guess there aren’t real quantitative goals that I want to achieve this year. Perhaps my goals should be written down as these -

(1) I want to be happier. That sounds simple. But I’m serious. Like really happier in the heart. I want to let go of burdens, sorrow and pain and really find inner peace and be happier. I think this year I really want to learn to manage myself instead of the problems I face in my life.

(2) I want to give back more. I’ve always felt that we were sent to South Africa for a reason. This is not a country with no wealth. The rich here are extremely rich. The poor are heartbreakingly suffering. There’s so much we can do to balance this inequality a little so that everyone can have a better life here.

(3) I want to take better pictures. I’ve met some inspiring people in my photography club and I hope I can take my own skills to a new level. Till today, I’m still too cheap to pay for lessons and am stealing ideas and techniques online and from the great masters I know. I’m going to practise more and get myself out there to shoot more.

(4) I want to love my family more. I take alot from the people who love me. So this year, I want to make a big effort to love them back more. My parents. The hubby. The kids. My cuzzies.

(5) I want to stay focused on the positive things in my life. I’m old. I lose track of things, especially the important ones. Sometimes I get really distracted. Sometimes I get absorbed in things and people that suck me dry. I want to focus on the good and walk away from the bad this year. Perhaps all I need is a bigger sense of humour to do this. =)

So, there.. let’s look at this a year later. =)
