The Neighbourhood of Melville in Johannesburg.

Our friends, H and J have been telling me about the wonderful neighbourhood that they live in. So one Sunday we visited them.

Melville is only 10 mins away from where we live and is a quaint little village of treasures with a relatively large nature reserve. It’s a wonderful place to spend a weekend afternoon.

Lots of local folks chill at the Service Station for their weekend brunch.

It’s no wonder. The food and coffee was good and presentation was so lovely, just looking at it made me happy.

There were rows and rows of shops, where we could buy stuff like clothes, accessories, books, cooking tools, gourmet foods, etc. And street vendors too. But I’m not a shopper.. so we browsed for a while and I was out of there.

Climbing up hills to the hilltop lookout.. now, that’s my thing. And Melville is home to a lovely nature reserve called the Koppies. It’s a beautiful site and the geology is 3 billion years old.

We hiked up and I panted like crazy. Sigh. Super weak these days.

It was amazing, trekking our way up. Walking through the highveld grass.

When we reached the top, I fell in love completely. I want to live here!

It was beautiful from up on the hill and we had a almost 360 degree panoramic view of Joburg city! How amazing!

And here are our friends, who are the bloggers for 2summers.net (the girl) and In Joburg – Living On The Rand (the guy). Both blogs focus on the lifestyle and happenings in Joburg.

I was amazed at how cozy this neighbourhood was. We took a long walk, just looking at quirky housing and tall trees.

Art on the street, right at your door step.

We’ve never walked a neighbourhood before since people always tell us it’s not a good idea to walk alone on the streets.

But Melville is a safe community. Being able to walk around together was so lovely.

I want to live here now! Argh.
