It’s Snowing In Johannesburg!
Yes, it’s pouring snow and sleet outside as I type this. I cannot believe it. Snow in the afternoon in South Africa.

If you’re in Johannesburg or its outskirts right now, you would have done what I did.. stand in the snow for a good few minutes and take in all of this miracle.
My South African friends, who were guzzling warm glühwein (mulled wine) with me at home when the snow came down really hard, said they’ve never seen snow like this in Joburg in their lives.

It’s an amazing sight out there right now. Fine bits of white snow coming down fast and hard and the wind whirling them around. People are leaving their work stations in the commercial buildings nearby and stepping into the snow to make snow balls. It’s almost madness.

We spent 3 years living in New Zealand and never had so much as a flake at home. The only time we saw snow fall was in the mountains. It’s such a privilege to experience first snow in Johannesburg!
At a closer look, there’s a lot of sleet and clumpy bits of snow.

The hubby is travelling for work and is missing all of this. =( I hope it continues to snow and he gets back in time to see this!

Really amazing. The only thing missing is the Christmas tree and lighting. :O )
It was snowing last year in Wellington. First time in decades too.
I was from Singapore too and went to NZ 3 years like you. Only difference was I returned to Singapore (rather unexpectedly) whilst you moved on to SA. Stumbled upon your blog and love it. Totally could empathetize with so many things you mentioned about living overseas. I also realised from Facebook we have many mutual friend, both in Singapore and NZ. Sometimes it’s amazing how small this big world is.
