The only reason I made an effort to check this infamous urban beach out was because I had read that it was ranked by the travel show, World’s Best Beaches as the 3rd best beach in the world.
La Barceloneta was a lovely neighbourhood of restaurants, a huge pier of fancy yachts and ships and a long busy beach.
A small wooden deck called the La Rambla Mer led the way to the beach via the yacht dock and it was indeed a beautiful scenic spot in the city of Barcelona.
For the gals, one of the reasons to check out this area is a large shopping mall called the Maremagnum by the pier. And for the guys, it’s definitely the topless women on the beach. This is Europe afterall.
And the beach was just crazy busy. I had to squeeze past many oiled bodies to get to the centre of the beach for these shots. The beach was packed. I couldn’t believe the number of people that would choose to bake in this heat. I couldn’t wait to get out of it.
I don’t think it’s the nicest beach I’ve ever seen. But it did seem like a place to see and be seen. And perhaps that’s what the fuss was all about. =)
