Sony Singapore Book Donation Drive
The folks from Sony Singapore contacted me to share with me a project that they’ve been doing for 5 years. It’s their book donation drive where new or second-hand English-language children’s books are collected from generous donors and then sent to South Africa for their South Africa Mobile Library Project.
This is such an amazing exercise and I know how huge an impact it will have on the children of South Africa because I live here now and I have met so many children who need the opportunity to have access to books. The mobile library visits schools in remote areas and brings books to children who would otherwise not have access to such learning materials. Education is the first step to a better life for many of the underprivileged children here.
Here’s our gal with the kids from the Kliptown Youth Programme, sharing and learning together in their small but well-stocked library. Having a library like this in a squatter settlement is a huge privilege and not many kids are as fortunate to have it.
If you are in Singapore, please help support this project by donating books for the children in South Africa. Your generosity will go a long way in providing the education that South Africa’s younger generation badly needs for their lives to be improved.
The book collection is from 11 to 22 August 2012 at the Sony Store in Wisma Atria, Singapore during the store’s opening hours. Sony will accept English books that are in good condition, suitable for children of ages 6 to 12. These include picture books, story books, encyclopedias and children’s reference books.
