My Favourite Things To Do In Auckland

Posted on Oct 26, 2012 in Bing, New Zealand, Travel

I’m really lucky to have the coolest and best Mommy in the world. My mother is super super cool and it’s such a blessing to have her in my life. Some gals grow up absolutely dreading the presence of their mothers. They would PAY their mothers to go away on a holiday, but I on the other hand, love travelling with my Mom. I loved re-visiting my favourite spots in Auckland with her, and two of my favourite things to do in that city are (1) to go up the Auckland Sky Tower, and (2) to go on a Harbour Cruise. I’ve done these many many many times, and have never gotten sick of them. Mom and I on the top of the Sky Tower   The Auckland Sky Tower is iconic in the city. It stands proud and...

Mission Bay

When we relocate, there are usually some things that we love and we can easily pack up and bring with us no matter where we go. And some things that we have to leave behind that make us weep. This gorgeous stretch of blue waters was one of the things that we were really sad to leave behind when we left Auckland. Mission Bay was the hubby’s favourite place to jog at when we lived in Auckland. It was our favourite place to pick up some fish and chips, and eat them picnic style on a mat on the grass and watch the waves crash on to the shore. I loved coming here for Movenpick ice cream in the evenings too. So while we were in Auckland, Mom and I returned to Mission Bay for a long walk. It’s...

Seafood Madness at Hammerheads Restaurant

Posted on Oct 15, 2012 in Bing, Food & Cooking, New Zealand, Travel

Mom and I counted our dollars and pennies, and we decided that we had enough money to indulge in a fine meal before we ended our trip in New Zealand. In Johannesburg, it’s no secret that we have our favourite seafood restaurant, Fishmonger. Not many people know that our favourite restaurant in Auckland was the Hammerheads Restaurant. The hubby and I used to celebrate every birthday there. Hammerheads does great seafood platters and the one we had did not fail. It was a spectacular spread of fresh oysters, scallops, crayfish, soft shell crab, calamari, prawns, clams, snapper fish fillets and mussels. And it came with a seafood chowder that was loaded with seafood too. It’s amazing how much two women can eat. Everything was so fresh that it all tasted like it was fresh out of the sea. It...

Palmerston North

Posted on Oct 14, 2012 in Bing, New Zealand, Travel

Mom and I made a deliberate detour to Palmerston North in New Zealand because a couple of our best friends have purchased a house there recently. I was given the impression that it was a farmhouse and they had sheep as pets, so I had prepped Mom for a few days of possibly no wifi and lots of manure in this obscure little city. No one I know has ever been to Palmerston North. It’s one of those places that no one goes to, not even the people who have lived here for 20 years. There was supposedly nothing there and definitely no tourism worth raving about. Life is, as always, full of (lovely) surprises. The city centre of Palmerston North was like any ordinary small quiet city in New Zealand, but just a few minutes outside of it...

Shot Of The Day : Pet Sheep

Posted on Oct 14, 2012 in Bing, New Zealand, Project 365 | Shot Of The Day

When we lived in New Zealand, I had always wanted a sheep for a pet. It was for practical reasons that we never had one. We did live in the city afterall. I am so envious of the people who live here in Turitea in Palmerston North. They have sheep as pets and these usually very timid babes actually come FORWARD to you when you go near. And go Baaaaa…. when you leave them because they don’t want you to leave (without feeding them first). Cuteness overload! Shot of The Day / Project 365 – One shot a day with my iPhone. Every day.Shot with iPhone Instagram App....
