Back to New Zealand

It was wonderful to have an opportunity to 回老家 (go back to old home), back to Auckland, New Zealand. I think it was fate that I should win a pair of tickets from the Singapore Blog Awards last year. And the destination.. of all places.. was the last place I had lived in for so many years before South Africa. I have been looking forward to this trip all year.. going back to all the familiar spots, catching up with old friends, eating at my favourite places.. and best of all, spending some good quality time with my Mom. My first glimpse of New Zealand from the aircraft through the dirty windows. It was really comforting to be able to remember this view after 2 years. I had snapped a shot from this same spot almost exactly 3 years...

Bye Bye, New Zealand.

So here we are, at the end of our chapter in New Zealand. Suddenly, I’m remembering the initial days. Where I had quit my job (one which I loved), left my beloved family and friends to come to this quiet, low populated land. I was so nervous about the move that I had a panic attack at the airport. I dumped 20 family members at a restaurant, pulled my mom out of the airport building with me, had a long cigarette and told her I didn’t want to go. Aerial View – The Final Bits of NZ | 08

Posted on Nov 06, 2010 in Bing, New Zealand

I wonder if I will ever get to see aerial view that is more beautiful than this. This shot was straight out of the camera, taken while we were departing from Queenstown, NZ. I’m going to miss these gorgeous mountains, seas and lakes very much! P/S. No cooking tutorials for a while.. my barang barang are all packed up and are probably somewhere over Australia or India now.. who knows? Haha.. But if you’re looking for inspiration this weekend, make my favourite Lemon Infused Spaghetti, with Sundried Tomatoes and Shrimp. This is one of my family’s fave dishes. Even my in-laws liked it. I’m definitely making this as soon as we fire up our new kitchen....

Marlborough Sounds – Final Bits of NZ | 05

The Marlborough region in NZ is famous for some of the best white wines in the world. Did you know that it’s also an incredibly beautiful place? This shot was straight out of the camera. Marlborough Sounds takes “blue” to a new dimension, doesn’t it? I will really miss this....

Fox Glacier – The Final Bits of NZ | 04

Posted on Oct 27, 2010 in Bing, Nature, New Zealand

The hubby and I loved the trek up the Fox Glacier last year (see it here). So we decided to do it again with our boy. It was a giant ice block. With so much ice around, I dreamt of margaritas and ice kachang. And with my kind of fitness level.. or the lack of it.. we all wondered why I didn’t collapse after the trek. Even the boots weighed a ton. It must have been the Red Bull.. gave me poweeeeer. It felt good to be up there. And still breathing....
